Chagrin Falls, OH
Population: 4,039
Chagrin Falls, OH is one of the more unique towns I visited on my trip. An old mill town that used the river and falls running through the town to power many water wheels at the height of its production. Now you can still see one of the falls running under the towns main street, but you won't find any more mills. A popcorn shop has taken their place as the main attraction.
Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop
The Popcorn Shop is hard to miss as you walk down the main stretch of road running through the town and over the Falls. They also serve candies, coffee, and the finest ice cream in the whole town. The store is one of the only tourist attractions that remain open year round, and is opperated by kids from the local high school and other citizens of Chagrin Falls.
Chagrin Falls Documentary Film Fest
This is the 7th annual Film Fest held in the Chagrin Falls area. The director, Mary Ann, is combing through over 600 submissions before the festival lineup is announced mid August and begins in October. As a fellow cinephile I was both surpised and incredibly excited to learn that a town of this size hosts a film festival. The Chagrin Falls Documentary Film Fest has been listed as one of the nations Top 50 Fests for 4 consecutive years now. After I finish the final cut of my road documentary I hope to submit it to the festival.
Robin - Chagrin Falls Hardware
A third generation resident of Chagrin Falls, Robin has worked at the Hardware store for 30 years with his wife after buying it from the previous owner. The two of them have stayed in the Falls area because, "we're ornery, and this is home to us," so there. If you have a hardware or mechanical problem Robin is your go-to guy in town. He loves problem solving and hasn't encountered a problem he can't solve through grit and hard-work. The back and forth banter between him and his wife makes you smile and laugh, feeling like you're a spectator at a sporting event. Despite being "ornery" they're incredibly friendly; stop by and say hi!
Dave's Cosmic Subs - #1 "The Original"
This sub shop is inspired by the British Invasion and its walls and ceiling are covered with classic rock bands and a mural painted by a Chagrin Falls local. This is the original shop, and the franchise has grown at a "Cosmic" rate as its fame and name spreads across Ohio. If you're looking for a great sub and an original atmosphere look no further than Dave's. It's the place for Rock 'n Roll served on rye bread.
Chagrin Falls, OH
This picture was taken after climbing down from the main viewing platform for the Falls. The river the falls feeds from and pours into extends quite a ways in either direction which gives plenty of room for exploring and creates homes for tons of wildlife. The geese move from the top of the falls to down into the calmer river as the day goes on. Maybe they want popcorn?
